Bledi Zaku, MD is a board-certified cardiothoracic surgeon and Chief of the Department of Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery at St. Joseph’s Health. With a profound commitment to patient centered care and clinical innovation, he performs all aspects of adult cardiac surgery, including coronary artery bypass graft surgery (CABG).

Dr. Zaku specializes in complex aortic surgery and valve-sparing aortic root reconstruction. This allows patients to preserve their own native valve while replacing the diseased aorta around it. He performs aortic arch surgery, for the treatment of extensive aneurysms, Mitral valve repair and replacement, Minimally invasive transcatheter aortic/mitral valve replacement (TAVR/TMVR) and Thoracic endovascular aneurysm repair (TEVAR), Transposition of anomalous coronary arteries, and mechanical circulatory support for cardiac and pulmonary failure (ECMO, Impella, RVAD). Dr. Zaku combines innovation, compassion, and clinical expertise to guide patients and their families through each step of their treatment journey.

Dr. Zaku earned his medical degree from the University of Vermont College of Medicine. While in medical school, he dedicated one year to clinical research in cardiac surgery outcomes at Mount Sinai Hospital. Dr. Zaku then completed his cardiothoracic surgery fellowship at NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center and his general surgery residency at Morristown Medical Center.
