Melissa Warta, MD, is a general surgeon at St. Joseph’s Health who specializes in surgical critical care and the treatment of acutely ill or injured patients. With a strong passion for delivering exceptional patient care, she is a dedicated advocate for trauma aftercare and has a particular focus on supporting pediatric patients and their families through complex recoveries. Dr. Warta values working within a health system committed to caring for underserved communities and is deeply invested in advancing quality care for all patients in need, whether it is in the arena of general surgery or emergency surgery and trauma. 

Dr. Warta earned her medical degree from the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey-Robert Wood Johnson (now Rutgers), where she also completed her internship and residency in general surgery. She went on to complete a fellowship in Pediatric Surgical Critical Care at the University of Michigan Medical School. She is board-certified in both general surgery and surgical critical care. In addition to her clinical work, Dr. Warta is committed to the education and mentorship of residents and medical students
