Scott R. Wessner, DO, FACOS, FACS is the Chief of the Division of Surgery at St. Joseph’s Wayne Medical Center and Medical Director of the Center for Wound Healing and Hyperbarics at St. Joseph’s Wayne Medical Center. A board-certified General Surgeon with additional certification in Surgical Critical Care, Dr. Wessner provides comprehensive care across outpatient, inpatient, and emergency settings. He is highly skilled in both traditional and minimally invasive robotic techniques, offering advanced treatment for gallbladder disease, hernias, and a wide range of complex general surgery conditions.
Dr. Wessner earned his medical degree from the University of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine and completed his General Surgery residency at St. Joseph’s University Medical Center, followed by fellowship training in Surgical Critical Care at the same institution. Before assuming his current role, he served as System Director of Acute Care Surgery for St. Joseph’s Health, overseeing trauma, acute care, and surgical critical care services for the Paterson region and beyond.
An active educator and researcher, Dr. Wessner has published in multiple surgical journals, lectures nationally and regionally, and serves as an Assistant Professor of Surgery for Rowan University School of Osteopathic Medicine. His practice is grounded in a patient-centered philosophy, combining surgical expertise with compassion and clear communication to guide patients and their families through some of life’s most challenging moments.
